LOSS TO DATE:
I first had thoughts about weight loss surgery five years before I did anything about it. At that time, I decided to do one of the well- known weight loss programs (again). I did lose weight but never reached my goal by a long shot.
Three more years went by, still no major weight loss but issues with my husband’s illness had progressed to me being his full-time care giver and my weight was not something I was dealing with at that time. A few months after my husband passed away, I realized that I desperately needed to get my health and weight under control.
I first saw Dr. John C. Cheregi at an informational meeting at Good Shepherd Hospital on October 30, 2019. Enter Dr. Cheregi and his staff. I watched his presentation, and my question was “Am I too old for the sleeve or bypass surgery? He said “NO!” After the session, I booked an appointment. His staff was very helpful and very thorough with questions about my past weight history, medical history, prescription history, exercising, and the like. The doctor went through the timeline for what to expect regarding pre-operative testing and educational visits with the dietitians and psychologists. Finally, we decided on a target date in February 2020. I was on my way!
I will say when I talked to my daughter about having this surgery done, she was skeptical…having lost her dad, she was afraid of loosing me during the surgery. I thought I was a healthy overweight person. I walked every day, did water aerobics three times a week, was on a few prescriptions, but saw my doctors regularly. I said to my daughter that I did not want to see her have to take care of me in my “older years” when I could still do something to help myself stay as healthy as possible. She accompanied me to a visit with Dr. Cheregi and had her questions answered. She was very supportive and felt I would accomplish what I wanted to do. Being prepared with information and questions to ask is very important.
I would recommend Dr. Cheregi to anyone even considering weight loss surgery. Go to the information meeting—meet the Doctor and his staff—see his credentials—ask questions—do something for your future self. He is not judgmental. He listens and wants to help YOU become a HEALTHIER YOU!!
I have reached a 100-pound weight loss in one year which both of my doctors feel I am at a good weight for me. It is a constant challenge to eat properly, but you can do it if you are determined to lose the weight and keep it off—you will have the tools (the surgery and the education) but you must also have the dedication, willpower, and the desire to learn what YOU need to do every day to get to your goal and maintain the weight loss!
My recommendation is to get started now. Meet the doctor I give a top rating of 5!! Do some research online or get a book (I have used “Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies”. They even have a good cookbook!
FEEL BETTER ! LOOK BETTER! DO IT FOR YOURSELF!
