My Journey
On the day of my first consultation, I sat outside the office for over an hour trying to talk myself out of going in. I had all the right reasons for coming; but coming in meant that I was accepting all those reasons for which I was ashamed. The first thing you asked me was, “How are you feeling about everything?” My response was, “Honestly, I’m scared”. But, you made me feel at ease and comfortable and like an individual. You did not judge, degrade, or make me feel bad about why I was sitting in your office asking you for help. You gave me time, your time. We spent over an hour together that first day discussing what would be a good option for me. You never made me feel rushed or that I was taking up too much of your time. When I left that day, I felt reassured not only about the decision I had made about the lap band but also in my choice for my surgeon.
Once we did the surgery, I realized you had given me the tool that helped me to retake control of my life, gave me my health back, and helped me to regain my confidence and self-esteem. To say “Thank You” doesn’t even come close to the gratitude that I feel for all that you have done. You have been more than just my doctor. You have been an advocate and one of my biggest supporters throughout this journey.
Since my surgery I have had many firsts…. I have worn my first strapless dress, and I have worn my first bikini! I have learned to, “never say never” and that goals are achievable. I have lost over 24 inches! I am healthier and living a healthier lifestyle. I am off my blood pressure medication and I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I feel like I can take on any challenge that life may throw me. But most importantly, I have regained control of my life! My husband has said that he sees the woman that he fell in love with….happy, and confident again. He loves the fact that I smile a lot more often than I had before.
