My Journey
I have struggled with my weight my entire life. It was a constant battle of losing the weight and then regaining it. My breaking point came when I quit smoking and gained an additional 35 pounds in one year. I was totally devastated and felt there were no other options for me. Then, one day, I saw a pamphlet about weight loss surgery. My daughter was also interested in weight loss surgery and we both attended Dr. Cheregi’s informational session. I knew walking out of that meeting that I wanted surgery and that Dr. Cheregi was the surgeon I wanted to perform it. Dr. Cheregi is so personable, down to earth, and incredibly supportive.
Prior to surgery, I was required to do medically managed weight loss for 6 months. During that time I lost 20 pounds. I was then required to do a 10-day pre-operative diet. That was the most challenging part of the entire experience. However, now two years later, I still do eat small amounts of food and focus on getting the nutrition that my body needs; but I would not say I’m on a diet. Instead, I have made a lifestyle change and in no way feel deprived.
Looking back, I am so glad I made the decision to have surgery. My life has completely changed for the better. I am no longer embarrassed or ashamed of my appearance. My confidence has greatly increased. However, I did not only do the surgery for aesthetic reasons. I wanted my health to improve, and it has greatly. I no longer have reflux and am able to do so much more with my life. Having Dr. Cheregi walk with me on this journey has been so encouraging. I have never experienced such a positive experience with a physician. His positivity and encouragement have not only influenced and helped me but have also had a positive effect on my family life.
